It was an overtime fest in Oakland County this past week, as an astounding 11 local prep basketball games needed extra sessions to decide their respective outcomes. Eight boys games and three girls games went into overtime between last Tuesday and Friday. This is not to mention the other half-dozen or so games that came down to the final shot of regulation.

Ruth Goode lost her job of 23 years the day before she learned she would receive the Women's Opportunity Award from Soroptimist International of Oakland County. "This is another adventure in my life and you all have given me such a great feeling of achievement," the Madison Heights resident said at the organization's awards dinner in Royal Oak.
